A small red spot on the side of Michael Mandell’s nose was misdiagnosed and treated four times before the correct diagnoses of Angiosarcoma was finally discovered. Locating a sarcoma expert and having additional treatments of chemotherapy, radiation, and surgery has lead him to be a survivor of Angiosarcoma. Michael was the Florida State Chapter Leader and is currently on the SFA Board of Directors. He is also an organizer of the Annual 5K Run/Walk for a Sarcoma Cure, which has funded three Sarcoma research grants for the SFA. Additionally, he works with several cancer and educational institutions to facilitate seminars throughout the state to provide education and advocacy efforts on behalf of Sarcoma patients and medical research.
In addition to his commitment and work with SFA, Mr. Mandell has been actively involved in the community. He has served as a Youth Administrator for the Plantation Athletic League and has coached his sons in baseball for many years.
In his day job, Mike Mandell is Corporate Collections Manager for Ryder System, Inc., a FORTUNE 500® provider of transportation and supply chain management solutions. Mr. Mandell has over 25 years of experience in the collections field, having held positions with American Express and Barnett Bank, in addition to the past 18 years with Ryder.
Mr. Mandell resides in Plantation, FL with Heidi, his wife, and sons Eric and Kyle.
