Shon Gables has co-anchored “CBS 2 News This Morning” since June 2003. Previously, she had been morning news anchor/general assignment reporter for WDIV-TV Detroit.
During her tenure at WDIV, Gables served as spokesperson for the American Cancer Society’s Southwest Michigan Division, and also produced a two-hour special on breast cancer awareness.
Prior to that, Gables was at KWTV in Oklahoma City where she was anchor for two years. She began her broadcasting career at KVSP Radio in Oklahoma City as news director and host, and later was associate producer at KWTV. Her first on-air assignment was for KWCH, the CBS affiliate station in Wichita, KS, where she served as anchor of the station’s public affairs program.
Gables is the recipient of the Lee Evans Outstanding Journalist award and was honored with the 2003 New York City Excellence in Media award by the Harlem Chamber of Commerce. Most recently, she received a National Black Achiever in Industry award.
In addition to her work as a broadcast journalist, Gables is deeply committed to serving the community. She is on the board of Youth-At-Risk, a New York-based non-profit organization dedicated to mentoring inner city youth, and is an honorary board member of New York Design, an annual fundraiser in affiliation with Partnership for the Homeless. She has also served as a mentor for VIP mentoring and is an honorary member of the Sarcoma Foundation of America.
Before her career in broadcasting, Gables was a regular on Soul Train, the hit syndicated television show, where she danced alongside rap moguls such as L.L. Cool J.
