Esther Margaret Chapman (formerly Nichols), 62, a resident of Greensboro, North Carolina, died on Tuesday, May 15, 2012 at Moses H. Cone Hospital. Her husband and three children were at her bedside when she died.
Esther was born on November 22, 1949 to James Earl Nichols and Bernice Mangum Nichols in Roxboro, N.C. She graduated from Person County High School in 1967. In 1969, she married John J. Chapman of Kinston, N.C. She graduated from North Carolina Central University in 1983 with a Bachelor of Arts degree. She completed her Master of Education in Special Education from Grand Canyon University.
Mrs. Chapman worked for the Guilford County School System where she served as a school teacher at Allen Middle School in Greensboro, N.C. and Penn Griffin Magnet School in High Point, N.C. She was dedicated to her students. Her fellow faculty members remember her as “selfless and warm”.
Mrs. Chapman is survived by her husband, a son- Jonathan, and two daughters-LaShaunda Croussore and Bionca Huntley, as well as three grandchildren- Julian, Jonah and Audrey. She is also survived by four brothers- James E. Nichols, Jr., Jerry D. Nichols, Billy M. Nichols, and Orlando M. Nichols as well as two sisters- Brenda L. Nichols and Joyce A. Robinson. She was predeceased by her sister, Nancy C. Desroe. Esther Chapman’s funeral will be held at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, May 22, 2012 at Cedar Grove Tabernacle of Praise Church located at 612 Norwalk Street, Greensboro, North Carolina. Interment shall immediately follow at Guilford Memorial Park Cemetery.
