Gerald R. Massey, Jr. was born February 18,1949 in Clinton, N.C. He graduated from Clinton High School in 1967 and Wake Forest University in 1971. He had a lifelong career in banking. In 1971 he joined Wachovia Bank in Winston-Salem, N.C. In 1974 he joined a small Mortgage Company in Charleston, S.C. which eventually became part of what is now Bank of America. Jerry was a fixture within this organization for 35 years until he retired in 2009. He continued his career with Key Bank until his passing. He was a well-known, successful and highly respected member of the Commercial Banking industry. His traits of honesty, fairness, and reliability made him well liked among his peers and customers. Jerry passed away on August10, 2013 after along illness with angiosarcoma.
