Mr. Sunil S. Parikh, 77, died on July 22, 2013, at his home in Missouri City, Texas from metastatic leiomyosarcoma. He was born in Gujarat, India and left in 1959 to attend the University of Leeds, England and obtained Bachelors and Masters of Science in Color Chemistry. He married Ila Parikh in Leeds on July 23, 1965 and came to the United States that same year to pursue doctoral training at Syracuse University. He went on to become a worldwide leader in the fields of color chemistry and chemical plastics working for Dow Chemical, Dart and Kraft, Monsanto and Bayer. He retired in 2001 to Missouri City, Texas.
He was first diagnosed with pulmonary leiomyosarcoma in 2009 and underwent surgery. He recurred one year later and underwent radiation as well as surgery on his small intestine. Unfortunately it recurred again in multiple areas and he subsequently received hospice care at home.
Mr. Parikh is predeceased by his parents and his brother, Shrikant. Mr. Parikh is survived by his wife, Ila Parikh, his son, Alexander A. Parikh (wife Rebecca), and grandchildren, Madeleine, Macallan, and Graham of Nashville, TN. He is also survived by 2 brothers, Sharad and Snehal, and 3 sisters, Sharmista, Sudha and Sohag. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the physicians at MD Anderson Cancer Center and especially to the Vantage Hospice Agency for the care they provided.
