Thank you for supporting the Sarcoma Foundation of America in honor of Michaelyn (Myke) Huestis, who lost her courageous battle with carcinosarcoma on June 26, 2010.
Myke was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1997. After procedures and treatment she was believed to be cancer free, and we all hoped we had made it through the most difficult thing she would face during her lifetime. Unfortunately, 10 years later cancer was found in her body again, this time carcinosarcoma. Again, procedures and treatment initially seemed successful, but in fact the cancer cells had spread to her lungs. By April of 2009, we were told that the cancer was throughout her lungs and that she likely only had months to live.
Still, Myke fought relentlessly to beat the odds and win her life back. She underwent radiation and chemo, as well as weekly blood transfusions in order to try to stop the progression of this cancer. In fact, she still insisted on receiving chemotherapy up until the very end. She would not give up as long as there was some hope for her to see her grandkids grow up!
As you most likely know…Myke has incredible faith and will. She is strong, caring, gentle, warm, and dedicated. Myke is who she is in a large part because of the people around her and the relationships she has fostered. She seems to be able to connect and relate to most anyone she meets, as she is incredibly open and loving.
With that in mind, she wants each and every one of you to know that you have touched her and have had an impact on her life. She is incredibly thankful and appreciative of everything people have done for her and with her (and her family) throughout her life. She only wishes she could do more to give back to all of you and to the world in general. Thank you for your support of her, the family and this cause. Maybe there will be a day where sarcoma patients are told it is easily treatable and curable. We all hope and pray for that day to come soon.
“Eyes have not seen and ears have not heard what God has in store for those who love him!”
