Why I continue to volunteer to help raise funds and awareness for SFA
Eight years ago my nephew Adam was diagnosed with Sarcoma. At the time, little was known or researched regarding this type of cancer. A registry or network of doctors specializing in the treatment of Sarcoma was not available. While faced with this ordeal, our family learned a lot about the lack of information about the disease. His parents decided to raise funds for Sarcoma research and awareness by initiating an annual gala to benefit the Sarcoma Foundation of America (SFA). They reached out to family and friends, and from that time on, I was committed to do as much as possible to help.
I hope you will help me reach my goal to raise $2,500. This money will go to the SFA, a non profit organization to subsidize research, to advocate for government funding against Sarcoma, and help to educate Sarcoma patients and increase public awareness regarding early detection of Sarcoma.
Sarcoma is most prevalent among young adults and children, accounting for 15% of all pediatric cancers. Today the fund raising Gala has supported not only a national registry and networking system to connect doctors, patients and families, but has helped to enable the sponsoring of medical grants for on-going research to find a cure.
Our family is very fortunate. Adam has been cancer-free to date. During these past eight years, we have come to know others who are still battling this disease and several who we lost to it. Cancer affects us all, and there is still so much more to be done to find a cure for Sarcoma.
Thank you in advance for any contribution you make to help us fight this disease. No amount is too small, and any donation would mean a great deal to me, the SFA and all Sarcoma patients and their families who are hoping for a cure.
Thank you.
Barbara
