The 9th Annual Bud’s Run is eagerly being planned. Bud’s Run is a 5K Run/Walk that remembers and honors Bud Swanson and those that have “moved on” as a result of sarcoma. Michéle O’Callaghan, 48, had lived in Pleasantville, New York for the last 17 years with her husband Tommy and their three children: Julia, age 14; TJ, age 11; and Mia, age 8. Born on September 14, 1963, her childhood was spent in Manhattan where she went to St. Joseph Academy grammar school and then to high school at Notre Dame Academy. In 1985 she graduated from Susquehanna University in Pennsylvania. An interest she had developed in theatre led her to follow a study of Theatre Arts both in the United States and in England. Michéle went on to be one of the most well-known and popular makeup artists in the entertainment industry. Highlights of Michéle’s career include being nominated for a Daytime Emmy for her work on Another World and traveling the world working Olympics games for NBC. Michele’s career spanned all corners of the entertainment world; The Today Show, Saturday Night Live, Later with Bob Costas, Inside the Actors Studio, The Maury Povich Show and The Late show with David Letterman, both at NBC and CBS, are just a few of the shows that she worked as a proud member of the staff.
While working at NBC, Michéle was introduced to her future husband, Tommy Togneri. The couple and their children always enjoyed spending time both in Pleasantville and Candlewood Lake, Connecticut. The lake community that Michéle had enjoyed since childhood provided some of their happiest moments and was the site of their wedding in 1995. Michéle was an avid athlete who water skied, jogged and took kick boxing classes so when her leg began to bother her in February of 2010, she thought it was a sports related injury. She would learn that it was a rare form of cancer called Soft Tissue Sarcoma. Michéle battled this horrible disease the same way she did everything in life, with a positive energy that inspired those around her. Michéle was a unique spirit that worked with some of the most famous people on the planet. Presidents, star athletes, and the biggest names in Hollywood all knew and respected Michéle. Her loss has been felt deeply throughout the entertainment industry. When the disease finally compromised her lungs this past December, Michéle passed away on December 16, 2011. Ron Giampaolo was born January 29, 1944 to Elmer and Mary (Birsa) Giampaolo in Joliet, Illinois. After graduating high school and enlisting in the army, he worked as a heavy machinery mechanic. Sarah Chidgey Hughes, or “Miss Chidgey” as she was known to her beloved students, was a devoted Spring Branch ISD teacher at Meadow Wood Elementary School in Houston, TX. Sarah was also a proud University of Texas and ZTA alum. She bravely fought Sarcoma from about March 2010 until February 2011.
The SFA Texas Chapter will be working over the next year to raise money to reach our goal of starting a Sarcoma research grant in Sarah’s name. To do this, we must raise $50,000 in just over a year. A lofty goal, but one that I believe we can achieve with your support.
If you were lucky enough to have known or met Sarah, you know that she was a very special young lady who touched hearts and inspired many. Through her beautiful blog, she was able to continue her passion, teaching. She taught so many of us about love, about life, about passion, and about hope.
If you would like to learn more about sweet, wonderful Sarah, she documented her life and fight with cancer on an amazing blog:

The story she tells is powerful. It is honest, uplifting, tearful, devastating, and inspiring all at the same time. I suggest you read her blog from the beginning. You won’t be disappointed. Help us raise money to reach our goal in honoring Sarah, and help find a cure for Sarcoma in our time!

Adventures of Snooky, Under the Sea is the first 2-D hologram children’s book in the world! Combining holograms with loveable characters, morals, and a rhyming story, this eye-catching book is ready to sparkle its way into the hearts of young children.
This book is dedicated to Brian J. Monaghan—brother, son, husband and father of five children. He passed away at age 34 from Leiomyosarcoma and Condrosarcoma, two rare cancers. Brian invented and patented a hologram system that created the holograms in this book. Proceeds from the book will go to the Sarcoma Foundation of America in Brian’s memory. We will always miss his spirit. He was brave, unselfish, and generous, just like our hero, Snooky.
For 10 years the Sarcoma Foundation of America has been committed to battling sarcoma by funding medical research, educating patients, and advocating for government reform. Throughout this first decade we have grown from a grassroots organization to a national foundation that has dedicated nearly $3 million toward sarcoma research, enabling crucial discoveries that are leading to new treatments.
The SFA has also developed the national Sarcoma Patient Registry as a research tool for epidemiological and drug development studies and funds career development programs to foster young scientists interested in gaining knowledge about this disease. Additionally, the SFA has been the voice of all Americans with rare cancers to engage the government to adopt policies that will foster new drug development for neglected cancers like sarcoma.
Unfortunately, despite this progress, much more has to be done to find a cure for all sarcomas.
Supporters like you have given us the focus and drive to build the Sarcoma Foundation of America into a true voice for sarcoma patients. With your help and generous spirit, the next 10 years will forge a path for more awareness, research, and new therapies for sarcomas.
In this season of giving, we are writing to ask for your further support in finding the cure in our time by donating to our end-of-year program, “A Gift in Our Time.” Your generous gift of $50, $100, $200, $500 or more will help in the search for a cure. There are a variety of ways that you can donate such as check, credit card, stock gifts, planned gifts, and matching gifts from participating employers.
Giving is a choice, fighting for a cause is a belief, and your support is a must!
Thank you in advance for your continued support!
