Sarah Chidgey Hughes, or “Miss Chidgey” as she was known to her beloved students, was a devoted Spring Branch ISD teacher at Meadow Wood Elementary School in Houston, TX. Sarah was also a proud University of Texas and ZTA alum. She bravely fought Sarcoma from about March 2010 until February 2011.
The SFA Texas Chapter will be working over the next year to raise money to reach our goal of starting a Sarcoma research grant in Sarah’s name. To do this, we must raise $50,000 in just over a year. A lofty goal, but one that I believe we can achieve with your support.
If you were lucky enough to have known or met Sarah, you know that she was a very special young lady who touched hearts and inspired many. Through her beautiful blog, she was able to continue her passion, teaching. She taught so many of us about love, about life, about passion, and about hope.
If you would like to learn more about sweet, wonderful Sarah, she documented her life and fight with cancer on an amazing blog:

The story she tells is powerful. It is honest, uplifting, tearful, devastating, and inspiring all at the same time. I suggest you read her blog from the beginning. You won’t be disappointed. Help us raise money to reach our goal in honoring Sarah, and help find a cure for Sarcoma in our time!

Adventures of Snooky, Under the Sea is the first 2-D hologram children’s book in the world! Combining holograms with loveable characters, morals, and a rhyming story, this eye-catching book is ready to sparkle its way into the hearts of young children.
This book is dedicated to Brian J. Monaghan—brother, son, husband and father of five children. He passed away at age 34 from Leiomyosarcoma and Condrosarcoma, two rare cancers. Brian invented and patented a hologram system that created the holograms in this book. Proceeds from the book will go to the Sarcoma Foundation of America in Brian’s memory. We will always miss his spirit. He was brave, unselfish, and generous, just like our hero, Snooky.
For 10 years the Sarcoma Foundation of America has been committed to battling sarcoma by funding medical research, educating patients, and advocating for government reform. Throughout this first decade we have grown from a grassroots organization to a national foundation that has dedicated nearly $3 million toward sarcoma research, enabling crucial discoveries that are leading to new treatments.
The SFA has also developed the national Sarcoma Patient Registry as a research tool for epidemiological and drug development studies and funds career development programs to foster young scientists interested in gaining knowledge about this disease. Additionally, the SFA has been the voice of all Americans with rare cancers to engage the government to adopt policies that will foster new drug development for neglected cancers like sarcoma.
Unfortunately, despite this progress, much more has to be done to find a cure for all sarcomas.
Supporters like you have given us the focus and drive to build the Sarcoma Foundation of America into a true voice for sarcoma patients. With your help and generous spirit, the next 10 years will forge a path for more awareness, research, and new therapies for sarcomas.
In this season of giving, we are writing to ask for your further support in finding the cure in our time by donating to our end-of-year program, “A Gift in Our Time.” Your generous gift of $50, $100, $200, $500 or more will help in the search for a cure. There are a variety of ways that you can donate such as check, credit card, stock gifts, planned gifts, and matching gifts from participating employers.
Giving is a choice, fighting for a cause is a belief, and your support is a must!
Thank you in advance for your continued support!
For seven years Outfox Sarcoma has been held at the Monmouth Park Racetrack in Oceanport, New Jersey in memory of my wife Pat. This year, I am regrouping our troops and skipping our on-track event. (Don’t worry friends, the track will still be there for you.)
Instead, I have a famous friend (who would like to be heard) who wants to talk about Sarcoma, as well as himself!! That famous friend is, no less “The Donald” and he will take up the challenge and voice his opinions about finding a cure for Sarcoma, a rare cancer which is often forgotten when cancer research funds are allocated.
Contact Maria DeMarco at .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) or 732-528-1275 ext 16 if you have any questions.
“The Donald” and myself wish to thank you for honoring Pat’s memory. Your contributions will help us to find a cure in our time.

The Combined Federal Campaign (CFC) is the world’s largest and most successful annual workplace charity campaign, raising millions of dollars each year. Each fall, federal employees – civilian, military and postal – are invited to support eligible national and local charities. More than 1.3 million employees pledge over a quarter billion dollars each year. From September 1st to December 15th, federal workers can now make payroll contributions directly to the SFA.
For any SFA supporters who also are federal workers, please try to remember us when you make your annual pledge through the Combined Federal Campaign. All of us at the SFA sincerely appreciate your generosity.

Jennifer Lenora Stephens-Kite, or “Jenji” as our family calls her, is a tall, beautiful, intelligent, outspoken, inspirational young woman. In October of 2005, five months after graduating Humble High School, she was diagnosed with Ewing’s Sarcoma. The tumor was found in her right knee about 4 inches in diameter. Immediately following her diagnosis she was checked in to MD Anderson where her life changed dramatically.
Jennifer went through six months of intense chemotherapy which made her infertile. After the first couple rounds of chemo her health significantly deteriorated. She lost a vast amount of weight, developed shingles, had trouble breathing, and a constant fever over 100 degrees. Though painful, she courageously fought to survive. In early April of 2006, she was stable enough for surgery in hopes to remove the tumor. Hours later the doctors came out and said the surgery was a success and the tumor was 99.9% removed. They replaced the bone in her leg with a metal rod that stretches from her mid thigh to mid shin and a total knee replacement. This forces her to stay inside most cold winters with a leg brace. Following Jen’s surgery she participated in a research study for the drug immother (im-thur), developed to prevent Sarcoma from returning anywhere in the body. That too was a success.
As of today she is five years in remission, healthier then ever, and happily married to her high school sweetheart, David Kite. Even though she will never be able to have her own children and will struggle with leg pains for the rest of her life, she’s grateful to say she fought the battle with Sarcoma and won. All proceeds will go to Sarcoma Foundation of America to help find a cure.
Her loving sister,
Stephanie E. Stephens
