Advocacy Scholarship Application

As one of our valued volunteers or supporters, the Sarcoma Foundation of America (SFA) would like to extend a special invitation for you to join us in Washington, DC, as an advocate on behalf of the sarcoma community. While there will be several opportunities** over the upcoming year to serve as an advocate and share your story with legislators, we are currently looking for advocates to attend the One Voice Against Cancer (OVAC) Lobby Day.

Advocates and volunteers from the member organizations of One Voice Against Cancer (OVAC) are invited to participate in the 2019 Lobby Day on May 13 and 14 in Washington, DC. Advocacy volunteers from OVAC member organizations will come together in Washington to talk about the importance of federal funding for cancer research at a time when your presence can have a significant impact on the legislative process. The importance of bringing constituents to Washington, DC, to advocate for Congress to make this cancer research funding a top priority has never been greater. Your voice is critical to ensuring that members of Congress recognize the role they play in fighting cancer by providing the necessary funds for the National Institutes of Health, National Cancer Institute and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, along with other federal agencies and programs that are essential to helping people with cancer. 
Issues training will be held on Monday, May 13, 2019. Meetings with legislative offices will take place on Tuesday, May 14.

To thank you for your efforts and support, the SFA would like to extend to you an invitation to apply for a scholarship of up to $500 to help defray the cost of attendance at One Voice Against Cancer Lobby Day. In addition, SFA will cover $75* of the cost of the registration fee.

*Note: The registration fee for each participant will be paid on the registration website. The fee is as follows: $75 on or before 11:59 pm EST April 5, 2019, and $125 on or after April 6, 2019.

There are a limited number of scholarships available. Scholarship applications must be submitted by 5:00 pm EDT on Friday, March 22, 2019. Scholarship decisions will be made on Monday, March 25, 2019. Applicants will be notified via email at the address provided on the scholarship application.

Advocates chosen to receive a scholarship will receive up to a $575 reimbursement to assist with registration, travel, lodging, and meal expenses. Attendance at the legislative training and the meetings on Capitol Hill are mandatory in order to receive this scholarship.

**Advocacy scholarships will also be made available in the year for other events, such as the Rally for Medical Research Capitol Hill Day.  While volunteers are welcome and encouraged to take part in all advocacy activities, advocates may only receive a scholarship per calendar year.
