David Asher Harris, MD

David Asher Harris, MDDavid Asher Harris, MD of Vancleave, MS, died Friday, November 4, 2016, at the age of 60 after a two-year battle with sarcoma.

David was born July 17, 1956, in New Rochelle, NY. In 1964 his family moved to Greenwood, MS. He graduated high school in 1974 as Class President, went to Emory University, then to the University of Mississippi Medical School where he completed his residency in Anesthesiology in 1985. After a brief stint in Laurel, MS, he moved to Ocean Springs, MS, in January of 1987 and started work at Biloxi Regional Medical Center where he practiced Anesthesia until retirement 2014. In Biloxi, he met and married the love of his life, Mary Ann Brooks. During his lifetime he was a devoted father to his only child, Elisabeth Harris Tometich. His many hobbies included traveling with his wife, flying his Bonanza around the Southeast, driving his bright yellow Porsche 911, being an avid golfer, and playing with his puppies. He loved farm life in Vancleave. He has touched many lives through his humor, generosity, knowledge, and kindness and was the embodiment of strength and grace.

He is survived by his wife of 26 years, Mary Ann; daughter, Elisabeth (Jimmy) Tometich of Phoenix, AZ; brothers, Paul (Kim) Harris and John Harris; sister, Nancy Harris; niece, Brooke; nephews, Dustin and Taylor; aunt Hanna Kaas of Amsterdam and cousins Els Hoekman & Paul Hoekman of the Netherlands, Peter (Barbara) Harris of Denville, NJ.

In lieu of flowers, the family prefers contributions be made to the Sarcoma Foundation of America or Hospice of Light.
