Genevieve’s 75th Birthday and 10 Years Cancer Free Celebration
June 11, 2016 @ 6:30 pm UTC-4
We constantly hear about the events held around the country to benefit different types of cancers like breast, prostate, colon and many others. There is one silent, insidious cancer, Sarcoma that is seldom mentioned. I am told it is rare and only few people are affected – I was one of the few!
I was first diagnosed in December of 2004 with stage four, soft tissue Sarcoma in my right calf. After the surgeries and treatments, I asked several local medical professionals “what was the cause of my tumor” and if they knew of any active Sarcoma research? Their replies at that time were my tumor was rare and I am lucky to even have a leg; not the answer I was looking for. I continued to look for explanations. In searching the web, I discovered the work and mission of the Sarcoma Foundation of America located in Maryland. They award grants specifically for Sarcoma research projects around the country.
My goal now is to raise awareness and with the help of SFA to hopefully eradicate this type of cancer. I decided to do what I could at the ‘grass roots level’ to support their mission, but how?
With this in mind, June 9, 2016, will be my 75th birthday and at that time, I will be over 10 years cancer free! What a perfect time to celebrate both occasions!
Family and friends are invited to celebrate with me on June 11, 2016, at the Holiday Inn French Quarter in Perrysburg, Ohio. Instead of gifts or flowers, I ask that they join me in making a donation to the Sarcoma Foundation of America. So please come, let’s get together and share in the joy by making a difference to help others.
