Team Tixier

April 6, 2016 - June 30, 2016

To help support the ongoing fight against sarcoma for Kathy Tixier and other sarcoma survivors. Sarcoma is a cancer that comprises 1% of adults’ cancers and 21% of children’s cancers. About 11,000 people are diagnosed with soft tissue sarcoma in the US each year. Liposarcoma (the kind that Kathy Tixier has) is even more rare. It accounts for 18% all sarcomas and can show up as a lump in almost any fatty tissue in the body. About 50% involve the thigh and up to a third involve the abdominal cavity (like Kathy’s). Scientists do not yet know the cause of liposarcoma. Some patients notice it through a lump after an injury, but it’s not caused by trauma. Kathy found it by noticing a lump sticking out of her belly. Patients with sarcoma do not feel sick. The site of the disease has a strong effect on the prognosis. For liposarcomas that arise within the abdomen, complete removal of the tumor is less common, mainly because it’s difficult for the surgeon to completely remove tumors in this location. Help us cure Sarcoma by offering a heartfelt way to express your love and appreciation – donate to Team Tixier and the $$ goes to curing Sarcoma. What better gift can a person gift?
