John Brooks, MD

Dr. John Brooks is a Professor of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania Health System in Philadelphia. He was Chair of Pathology at Roswell Park Cancer Institute in Buffalo (1993-2002). Since 2004, he has been Chair of Pathology and Director of the Ayer Laboratories at Pennsylvania Hospital, the nation’s first hospital, with its Residency and Fellowship Programs.  He is on the editorial boards of several Pathology journals, and has written over 230 articles, chapters, and editorials; and 2 books.  In 2006-7, he served as President of the American Society of Clinical Pathology.

His clinical and research focus has always been on soft tissue and bone tumors and sarcomas, since his residency days.  He is now President of the International Society of Bone and Soft Tissue Pathology (ISBSTP, the sarcoma pathologists), from 2019 to 2021. He is particularly proud to be part of the founding of the Sarcoma Foundation of America.  He has 8 grandchildren.
