Senior Manager of Special Events

The Senior Manager of Special Events leads the Sarcoma Foundation of America’s (SFA) Race to Cure Sarcoma run/walk event series and executes it locally (at race locations) and/or virtually. This position is also the lead for all SFA third party fundraising events. The Senior Manager of Special Events serves as a day-to-day contact with many of our volunteers, vendors and related stakeholders. In addition, this person leads the growth of the series in terms of locations, engagement, and fundraising dollars. Developing communication, fundraising campaigns, and sponsor opportunities to raise $1 million+ for sarcoma research. This is a unique opportunity to help support existing events and design new ones to help bring greater awareness for sarcoma and increase funding support for sarcoma research, advocacy and education.

PRINICPAL DUTIES

  • Supervise the Community Engagement Manager
  • Develop budgets and keep senior leadership apprised of revenue and expenses
  • Create fundraising materials and e-mail content specific to fundraising events to motivate and inspire fundraisers
  • Develop sponsor opportunities and engage sponsors both locally and nationally
  • Work with the Director of Development and Communications to improve donor relations activities related to these events
  • Develop marketing plan (including social media, email marketing, branding and research projects)
  • Work alongside the CEO and Director of Development and Communications to develop new events and the appropriate infrastructure to support them
  • Contribute to the event materials and processes needed to support volunteers and donors for current and future events
  • Work with partners to execute profitable, engaging fundraising events
  • Support local site volunteers as needed; travel to event sites
  • Manage the development of event materials required for the success and implementation of successful events
  • Responsible for ensuring fundraising policies and related regulations are followed for the success of the event

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • At least 7 Years of nonprofit fundraising event experience
  • Bachelor’s degree required or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Ability to fundraise and identify new sources for revenue
  • Strong project management skills and ability to manage multiple events at a time
  • Knowledge of best practices in the peer-to-peer fundraising and event fields
  • Enjoys working with people and is an effective leader of volunteers with the ability to handle conflict and resolve issues
  • Excellent communication and writing skills
  • Self-starter and entrepreneurial spirit
  • Able to work independently with minimal supervision, good time management skills
  • Passionate about finding a cure for sarcoma preferred
  • Experience with P2P platforms preferred
  • Comfortable in navigating a changing environment and competing demands
  • Ability to travel as required for events and related meetings
  • Flexibility to work nights and weekends (as needed) for preparation and execution of events

The staff is currently teleworking due to the COVID-19. A hybrid of teleworking and in office days will continue when the SFA office opens.
