Adam Schreiner

Adam was born with the genetic disorder neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1). He was diagnosed with metastatic sarcoma in April of 2022 at the age of 26 after some of his fibromas turned cancerous. His sarcoma was a rare, aggressive, and difficult to treat cancer called malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumors, MPNST. By the time this cancer showed any symptoms it had already spread to many places in his body.

Adam underwent radiation and three rounds of chemotherapy treatments at Mayo Clinic in Rochester MN from April through July. His scans in early August showed the majority of the tumors did not shrink. Adam returned home to Bozeman, MT under hospice care to have as many high-quality days as possible. Unfortunately, we only got about 4 weeks of high-quality time with him as his cancer continued to rapidly spread. He passed away peacefully and without pain in the arms of his family on October 3, 2022.

Adam leaves behind his parents, sister, brother, and a host of extended family and friends. Adam was a brave, beautiful person with a pure heart who will be deeply missed by all who knew him. We were lucky to have him in our lives. To honor Adam’s memory, we want to support finding a cure for this rare, “silent” and wicked cancer that took Adam’s life way too soon.
